Curriculum
ULA High School offers the Minneapolis Public School curriculum in a six 55-minute classes. Students achieve a more focused review of curricular content, gain the opportunity to accelerate credit recovery, and get on track to graduate.
Summary
Accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, Urban League Academy is an ideal setting for students who have a college and career focus for the future. As a contracted alternative school in the Minneapolis Public School system, we provide individualized attention and instruction to those who have fallen behind in credits. Our curriculum emphasizes mastery of basic skills with real world applications through technology and service learning projects. We encourage creative expression through global art and strong computer skills. We offer afterschool tutoring for homework assignments, standardized test preparation, and credit make-up.

Partnerships with local state and community colleges to help the transition from high school to post-secondary education.
Participation in Post-Secondary Options through the Early College initiative with Minneapolis Community Technical College and Minnesota State University-Mankato. Certificates can be earned in health care, machine works, information technology, or culinary arts.

Summary
Urban League Academy Elementary is a contracted alternative elementary school program serving grades Kindergarten – 8th. The mission is to provide a structured, comprehensive, standards-based education to underserved African Americans and other minorities that prepare them to compete in today’s advanced educational environment. The curriculum is supplemented by a full computer lab, library, and after school access to tutoring. We continuously assess, measure, and report student progress so that immediate action can be taken to ensure an improvement in academic performance. Students are introduced to the wider world through field trips to museums, historical sites, nature preserves, and local colleges.
The school promotes a caring, nurturing and family-oriented culture where parents feel welcome in school at any time, and are well-informed about their child’s progress. Parent meetings/conferences are held regularly on the second Tuesday of each month from 6 - 8 p.m.
After School Programs (PROJECT READY)

Grades 6 – 8
After-school enrichment around academic achievement, college preparedness, and cultural awareness is held on Monday – Thursday for 2.5 hours in various locations. Students improve basic skills through the Kid’s College computer program. Local artists and health instructors offer a variety of arts and fitness activities.
Grades 9 – 12
After-school preparation for college entry for students and their parents. Curriculum includes ACT test preparation, development of a college admittance portfolio, tours of local colleges, advice from local speakers. Meetings are held weekly at the high school.
Thirty-five students who complete the curriculum will be selected to join the tour of Historically Black Colleges and Universities in March of each year.
African American Culture Camp
Selected students earn the opportunity to participate in a five-day residential camp for immersion in African American culture. Participants experience the history, arts, and spirituality of their ancestors.
